PLSS- Public Land Survey System Maps

As discussed in class notes, PLSS maps are considered systematic partitioning methods comparable to Roman centuration. The system is based on meridians, baselines, and 6mile by 6mile sqare grids, further divided into 36 one mile square sections. In the late 1700's this system was developed for use in the growing US to attemp to efficiently document and be able to locate land parcels for record keeping and revenue enhancing pursuits.
